聯招英語·would rather / prefer / had better：後面到底接不接 to

一、考點定位與做題順序

這幾個結構都表示「寧願/最好」，但後接形式分兩檔：would rather 與 had better 後面是不帶 to 的動詞原形；prefer A to B 裡的 to 是介詞，後面必須是名詞或動名詞。prefer to do rather than do 又回到不定式，容易和前一檔混。

二、逐題精講

題1

題1　補全下列自編示意句，並說明每空後接形式。

解析

① would rather 後接不帶 to 的原形 stay；② would rather … than 兩端都接原形，walk 與 take 都不帶 to；③ prefer A to B 的 to 是介詞，空裡填 to，後面 coffee 是名詞；④ prefer to do rather than do 裡 rather than 後接原形 take；⑤ had better 後接原形，否定式為 had better not leave。五空覆蓋 would rather 2、prefer…to 1、prefer…rather than 1、had better 1；擴到十空即 3/2/2/1/2，合計 10 閉合。判據寫成：先看是不是 would rather / had better（原形檔），再看 to 後面是不是名詞或動名詞（介詞檔）。

題2　若給 2 個 would rather 空加 to，合法率是多少？再把 prefer…to 的 2 空接原形呢？

解析

原 10 空全合法；誤加 to 的 2 空不合法，合法 8 空、合法率 8/10 = 80.0%。再把 prefer A to B 的 2 空按不定式符號處理、後接原形，又錯 2 空，合法 6 空、合法率 60.0%。兩個分母都是全部 10 空，不是 would rather 檔 3 空或 prefer…to 檔 2 空；用單檔作分母會得 33.3% 或 0.0%。兩次錯誤落在不同檔、不重疊，可以累加成 6 空合法；若第二類錯誤恰好也落在前 2 空上就不能相加，本題題面已說明分屬兩檔，故可加。另 would rather 後接從句時要用過去式表虛擬，本組另有 2 空屬此用法，不計入這 10 空的原形檔。

答案　誤加 to：合法率 80.0%（8/10）；再接原形：60.0%（6/10）；兩檔錯誤不重疊可累加。
