一、考點定位與做題順序
狀語從句空先把主句與從句各寫成一句中文，問：從句是主句成立的條件、與主句相反卻仍成立的讓步、目的（以防），還是時間？關係定了，選項範圍立刻縮到一兩個。
四條硬規矩：unless = if…not，自帶否定，不能再加 not；in case＝「以防／萬一」，表預防性目的，不等於 if；even if 是讓步（即使，未必發生），although 也是讓步但多接已成立事實；no matter how / however + 形容詞或副詞，不直接接名詞；provided (that)＝「只要／倘若」，是條件而非讓步。下面短文為自編示意文本，館名與數據均屬虛構。
二、逐題精講
題1
題1 八空完形（每空四選一）

(1) B (provided that)。 「只要讀者在臺前留下一張卡，資料室就出借地圖」——從句是條件。unless 自帶否定（＝if…not），代入成「除非留卡才不出借」反了；even if 讓步、in case 預防，均不合。(2) A (Unless)。 「除非把卡還回來，否則這張地圖不能再借」＝ if the card is not returned。注意 unless 本身已含 not，從句裡不再加否定。
(3) B (in case)。 「備一盞燈以防晚間停電」是預防性目的；if 只說「如果停電就備燈」，時間順序與「預先備著」不符。
(4) B (Although)。 「房間雖小，卻容納了大部分館藏」——已成立事實的讓步，用 Although。Even if 用於「即使（未必發生）」，此處房間小是事實。
(5) A (Even if)。 「即使它大得多，那兩隻櫃子仍會靠北牆」——與事實相反的假設讓步，且從句用 were、主句 would still stand，是虛擬語氣；If 只給條件不給「退一步仍成立」的分寸。
(6) A (No matter how)。 空後是副詞 carefully，固定 no matter how + adj./adv.；no matter what 後接名詞或直接作賓語，不接副詞。
(7) A (Even though)。 「儘管標籤清楚，新讀者仍常先問一句」——已成立事實的讓步；If／Unless 會把讓步改寫成條件，In case 更不通。
(8) C (provided that)。 「只要兩週內歸還，就可以把指南帶回家」＝條件。unless 會變成「除非兩週內歸還否則可帶回家」，反了；even if 讓步、no matter how 需接 adj./adv.。

易錯點 見「條件」就填 if，忽略 provided that；unless 從句裡再加 not；把 in case 當 if；(4)(5) 兩空都填 Although 或都填 Even if，看不出事實/假設之別；no matter what 後接 carefully；把 (8) 填成 unless 使句意反轉。

題2 改錯與同義改寫
(1) 下面三句各有一處連詞使用不當，請改正並說明理由：
① Unless a reader does not leave a card, the room lends a map.
② Even if the room was small, it held most of the collection.
③ Staff kept a spare lamp if the power failed that evening, and no matter what carefully the shelves were labelled, visitors still asked.
(2) 把「Visitors may take a guide home provided that they bring it back within two weeks」改寫成不改變條件、且不用 provided that 的兩種說法，並說明其中一種為什麼容易丟掉「兩週」這一限定。
解析
(1) ① 去掉 does not，或把 Unless 改 If 並保留否定：Unless a reader leaves a card… 已是「如果不留卡」，再加 not 變成「如果不留卡就不…」的雙重否定，與原意「留卡才借」相反。標準改法是刪去 does not。② Even if 改 Although / Even though：房間小是已成立事實，謂語用 was（陳述），應用事實讓步；Even if 用於「即使（未必發生／與事實相反）」，須配 were / would 類虛擬形式。
③ if 改 in case（預先備燈是預防，不是「停電之後才備」），no matter what 改 no matter how（後接副詞 carefully）。
(2) 說法一：Visitors may take a guide home as long as they bring it back within two weeks.（as long as 與 provided that 同義，條件與兩週限定全保住。）
說法二：Visitors may take a guide home on condition that they return the guide within two weeks. 也可用 Visitors may not take a guide home unless they agree to return it within two weeks.（改用 unless 時要把主句改成否定，否則條件反轉。）
最容易丟「兩週」的是把 provided that 直接換成 if 並把從句壓縮成 if they return it：只說「歸還」而不寫 within two weeks，就把有期限的條件降成無限期的條件，讀者會以為什麼時候還都行。另外用 unless 改寫時若忘了把主句改否定，條件會整個翻過來（變成「除非兩週內歸還，否則可以帶回家」）。
答案 (1) ① 刪 does not（unless 自帶否定）；② Even if→Although/Even though（事實讓步）；③ if→in case、no matter what→no matter how。(2) as long as…／on condition that…（或主句改否定的 unless 式）；壓縮成 if they return it 最易丟「within two weeks」。
採分點 ① 改對並說明雙重否定 2 分；② 改對並說明事實讓步 1 分；③ 兩處各 1 分；(2) 兩種合法改寫各 1 分；說明「兩週」易丟 1 分；說明 unless 式需主句改否定 1 分。
易錯點 ① 只改連詞不刪 not，雙重否定仍在；② 把 was 改成 were 來遷就 Even if（改變了原句事實性）；③ 只改一處；(2) 用 unless 時主句仍為肯定，條件反了；把 within two weeks 寫成 in two weeks（「兩週後」而非「兩週內」）。

狀語從句空先把主從句各譯一句中文，再判「條件／事實讓步／假設讓步／預防」：provided that 給條件、unless 是「if…not」、in case 是「以防」、Although 接事實、Even if 接 were/would 的假設，no matter how 後只能跟形容詞或副詞。改寫時尤其別把 within two weeks 壓沒。短文中資料室、兩張卡與兩週期限均為自編示意，不代表任何真實規定。
